| Castel Sant'Angelo |
Ponte Sant'Angelo, better known as the Angel Bridge, is a favorite place for photographers to shoot the grand Castel Sant'Angelo and the nearby Basilica of Saint Peter. The bridge is lined with ancient angel statues, which frame the round castle building at its end. Originally built as a tomb for Emperor Hadrian, the fortress is linked to the Vatican by a not so secret passage way. It has been used as a papal residence, apartments for Alexander and his famous children Cesare and Lucrezia, and has an fascinating dungeon. Much of this history can be seen by visitors, including a nice panoramic city view from the upper level. Artists and vendors often occupy the bridge during afternoons on nice weather days. |
