scala opera house

La Scala Opera House:

The Museo della Scala in the resplendent La Scala Opera House, is a short ten-minute walk from the Duomo.

Here is a near-holy pilgrimage site for the lovers of opera, who will see paintings, costumes, sculptures, compositions, and photographs - all displayed like religious icons - of the legendary singers and conductors who have appeared in this foremost venue for Grand Opera.

Address: 2 Piazza della Scala
Open: Daily Mon-Sat
santa maria delle grazie

Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie:

Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper, exhibited in a special, detached room of the Santa Maria delle Grazie Church, was painted in 1495 as a fresco in the former refectory of a Dominican monastery.

The delicate colors on plaster began to deteriorate within short years of the painting's completion and have undergone almost continual restoration in the five centuries since, though some parts of the massive painting are still difficult to discern.
castello sforzesco

Castello Sforzesco :

The Castello Sforzesco is a spectacular fortified palace built by the Viscontis and the Sforzas, Signori of Milan, who held sway over Northern Italy between the late Middle Ages and Renaissance.

The Castle was extensively renovated around 1900 to house museums and libraries.

Particularly outstanding is the art gallery, or Museo d'Arte Antica, containing both paintings and sculptures.

Its exhibits include the 'Rondanin Pieta,' last and perhaps most moving masterpiece by Michelangelo.

Galleria D'Arte Moderna:

Via Palestro 16 20121 Milano

The collection of 19th and 20th century art includes works by Manet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, de Chirico, Umberto Boccioni and others.

There are also exhibits of contemporary and temporary art.
