Announcing “Authentic Tuscany & Food Day Trip” from Rome

Another Covid winter is upon us and it's hard to imagine the day when we will be able to sit and swelter under the Tuscan sun together again, but at DriverInRome we have been busy at work dreaming up new excursions in anticipation of the return of tourism in Italy.

In today's blog post we are highlighting our newest cultural experience, Authentic Tuscany & Food Day Trip. This cultural tour with your own private car and driver is available from Rome and features everything you visit Tuscany for: fabulous countryside, Medieval villages, and of course good food and good wine in a truly Tuscan setting.

Authentic Tuscany & Food Day Trip: our newest cultural tour from Rome

There is no place like Tuscany for a taste of authentic Italy, and few places can compare to the Val d’Orcia when it comes to evocative natural beauty and iconic Medieval architecture.

In this part of Tuscany, the undulating landscape sets the scene for a cultural and culinary experience you will never forget: the splendid Medieval villages of Montepulciano & Pienza plus a home-cooked Italian meal. It's a chance not only to enjoy some fabulous Italian food but also to step into a slower pace and remember a time when life was simpler and simple pleasures enjoyed to the fullest.

Our immersion in authentic cuisine and amazing countryside is for those seeking a true Tuscan slow-food experience while surrounded by some of the country’s most gorgeous countryside

MONTEPULCIANO

A handsome hilltop village, Montepulciano is set amongst vineyards, rolling landscapes, and thermal springs.

You will be taken on an hour-long tour of this perfect Medieval hamlet by a licensed local guide, who will show you all the beauteous and curious sights, such as the Torre del Pulcinella clock tower, where the character from 17th century Neapolitan commedia dell’arte by the same name strikes the bell to mark the top of the hour.

After your guided visit, you’ll have some free time to stroll the Medieval streets on your own and browse the shops bursting with divine local food products.

CLASSIC TUSCAN LUNCH IN A GENUINELY TUSCAN SETTING

This is the real Tuscan deal — seasonal ingredients lovingly prepared by hands that have learned the local culinary traditions directly from the generations before them. The setting for lunch will be picturesque and genuinely Tuscan, and will vary based on availability (a factor of the truly authentic nature of the locales).

We’ve built in time to relish the meal, the company, and the conversation in a truly Italian way. When you finally push away from the table you will be full to the brim, not only from the fabulous food but also from the camaraderie.

PIENZA

Today, the Medieval village of Pienza is best known for its cheese — pecorino (sheep’s milk) cheese in particular — but it also has noteworthy past thanks to a pioneering pope who transformed his humble hometown into a little jewel of the Renaissance.

Aeneas Sylvius Piccolomini, who became a great humanist scholar during the 15th Century and later Pope Pius II, was the first to apply the humanist concept of urban design to town planning.

Besides the Medieval marvelousness there is also lots of cheesy deliciousness to be sniffed as you wander the town.

After a scenic drive back to Rome you’ll be dropped at your lodgings.
