Amazing day trip to Tuscany

This day trip with David as our driver/host was one of the highlights of our Italy vacation. Can’t say enough about both Daniel (the person we scheduled the trip with) and our host for the day, David. We are six friends who have known each other for 50+ years. David picked us up at our hotel in Rome. From there we went to two quaint villages: Pienza and Montepulciano. Explored each for about an hour before heading to a true Tuscan family owned/run farm. Our hostess was the owner who fixed a four course lunch from food sourced from their farm. By far one of the best meals of our 10 day stay. She was so gracious and we enjoyed our delicious lunch family style sitting under a charming pergola.
Just some of our tasty dishes….home made salamis adorned the meat and cheese plate. This was followed by the most amazing cannelloni beans (farm grown) that none of us wanted to share…so delicious and her secret recipe! Beautiful home grown sweet tomatoes with olive oil and basil, homemade focaccia, a cabbage salad and one of the biggest wheels of cheese I’ve ever seen. Then came a huge pan of homemade pasta in a rich tomato sauce. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better she brings out a pork tenderloin that you could cut with your fork. This was accompanied by tender, little red onions roasted in red wine. Of course, more bread….did I say it was a hazelnut/grape bread? So tasty. When we were so full we could hardly move we are presented with a most delicious cake for dessert. Throughout the entire afternoon there were several bottles of marvelous Tuscan wine. We literally rolled back to the van for the ride back to Rome but OH SO HAPPY (and stuffed).
