What to
expect from your driver on a private day trip or shore excursion:
Our drivers will share with you the facts and history of the places and
monuments you will be seeing from inside the vehicle. Note that drivers in
Italy are not permitted to share information once you have exited the vehicle,
nor can they accompany you on foot. You will have the opportunity to stop in
each area listed on the itinerary to explore on your own. We can arrange a
private guide for you if you wish to be accompanied inside churches,
archeological sites, and other points of interest (additional expense; refer to
the Optional Items section, if present, or contact us for details).
Is this tour private?
No. This is a shared shore excursion with other passengers, following a scheduled itinerary and timing. If you prefer a fully private experience with maximum flexibility, we can arrange a private tour on request. For vehicle details and comfort standards, you can also see our fleet.
Is the itinerary flexible, or do we follow a strict schedule?
Because this is a shared shore excursion, the itinerary follows a set schedule to coordinate all passengers and ensure everyone returns to the port on time. The only exception is when the group is going to a specific winery with a fixed reservation, which can affect timing.
Is wine tasting included in this shore excursion?
Yes. Wine tasting is included. The tasting is organized in advance to keep the day smooth and on schedule, so guests do not choose wineries on the day.
How far are San Gimignano and Volterra from Livorno Port, and how much driving is involved?
This is a full-day countryside itinerary. Driving times vary with traffic and the exact route, but you should expect several hours of total driving spread across the day. The benefit is that you get to see Tuscany’s landscapes comfortably between stops, without needing to manage directions or parking.
What are the must-see highlights in San Gimignano?
Most guests love the medieval atmosphere, the famous towers, scenic viewpoints, and browsing small artisan shops. It’s also a great place for relaxed photos and a light stroll rather than a “museum-heavy” stop.
What are the must-see highlights in Volterra?
Volterra is known for its medieval streets, local craftsmanship, and panoramic views. It feels quieter and more authentic, and it’s a nice contrast to the lively feel of San Gimignano.
Do we need tickets in advance for anything on this tour?
In most cases, no advance tickets are required for simply visiting the towns and enjoying the included tasting. If you want to add optional monument entrances (when time allows), tickets and fees are not included and may depend on opening hours and availability.
Is the driver also a guide?
The driver is not a licensed guide on foot. You’ll receive helpful commentary during the drive, but once you exit the vehicle, you explore independently. If you want a licensed guide for deeper context, we can advise options depending on availability (additional cost).
Does the driver come inside sites with us?
No. Drivers remain with the vehicle and coordinate meeting points. Only licensed guides are permitted to accompany guests inside sites.
What is included in the price?
Shared transportation, English-speaking driver, port pickup and drop-off, itinerary coordination, and wine tasting included.
What is not included?
Lunch, gratuities, optional monument entrance fees, and any extras beyond what is included in the tasting.
Is this tour suitable for seniors or guests with limited mobility?
It can be, as long as guests are comfortable with moderate walking and some uneven surfaces in hill towns. If you have mobility concerns, tell us in advance and we’ll be honest about whether this shared format is a good fit or if a private tour would be more comfortable.
What should we wear or bring?
Comfortable walking shoes are important because both towns have cobblestones and inclines. Bring a light jacket in cooler months, sun protection in warmer months, and a small bottle of water. If you plan to buy wine or local products, a small tote bag is handy.
Where do we meet the driver at Livorno Port?
We’ll confirm the exact meeting point based on your ship and docking details. Your driver will be holding a sign with your name. If you can’t locate the driver within a few minutes, contact our office/WhatsApp right away.
Do you guarantee an on-time return to the ship?
Yes. We plan the day around ship schedules and manage timing carefully to ensure a timely return to Livorno Port. You can rely on our guarantee for punctuality and peace of mind.
What happens if the ship can’t dock due to weather?
If the ship does not make it to the pier due to bad weather, you will not be considered responsible and no charge will be made, except for any pre-purchased items (if requested separately) that are nonrefundable.
Is gratuity included (is tipping expected in Italy)?
Gratuity is not included. Tipping is always optional and based on your satisfaction. As a simple guideline: 10% is good, 15% is great, and 20% is exceptional. Please tip only if you really liked the service.
There will
be a full charge for bookings canceled with less than 72-hour notice for any
service required. In this case, a full charge will be made on your credit card.
If you miss
your flight or if your airline decides to cancel the flight due to bad weather
or if your flight is directed to another airport on arrival, please advise us
on time (as soon as you know) or a full charge will be made.
Please give
us enough time so we can accept other reservations and allocate them to our
chauffeurs.
If the ship
does not make it to the pier for bad weather, you will not be considered
responsible so NO CHARGE will be made to your credit card.
A full
charge will be made for a no-show-up.
Only
pre-purchased skip-the-line tickets (if requested) are not refundable under the
circumstance and will be charged to your card.
