large buses are not permitted, allowing you to see more, walk less and capture
the "best of Rome". You will see the Colosseum, the Roman Forum,
Victor Emmanuel monument, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon,
Navona Square. We will provide skip-the-line tickets for the Colosseum.
Your driver will pick you up in the evening and take you for
a night tour of Rome including the highlights of the Eternal city.
Enjoy the day on your own. Return to sites seen already or
do some shopping, stroll through Via Condotti at the Spanish steps and enjoy a
gelato!
Enjoy a ride through the Etruscan countryside and head to
Florence visiting Montepulciano, stop and taste some of the local wine.
Continue on to Pienza and try some pecorino cheese, then proceed to San
Gimignano, the Manhattan of Italy, before arriving in Florence. Overnight in
Florence.
Visit the Accademia Gallery, home to Florence’s most treasured works of art,
Michelangelo’s David and
the Slaves then walk to Piazza del Duomo where you can admire Florence's
cathedral standing tall over the city with its magnificent Renaissance dome
designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. The tour continues with a visit of the
medieval quarters where Dante Alighieri and Beatrice lived then onto Piazza
della Signoria, the hub of the social and political life of the city since the
13th century. Presiding over everything is Palazzo Vecchio, Florence's city
hall, and the 14th-century Loggia dei Lanzi, a beautiful arched gallery housing
an impressive collection of Renaissance and Roman sculptures. The tour will
finally take you to the Ponte Vecchio, a Medieval colorful bridge over the Arno
river, for a visit and some shopping.
Today your driver will pick you up directly at your
accommodation for a visit to the splendid maritime city of Pisa to see the
famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Field of Miracles. Next, your driver will
take you to Lucca, one of the most famous and glorious walled cities of Italy.
Lucca was founded by the Etruscans but actually, its origins are far more
remote. In 180 BC the town became a Roman colony and from this period it has
retained the rectangular grid of the Roman street plan.
Lucca is a rather small town but there are many interesting
places to visit here: the Romanesque cathedral of San Martino, the church of
San Michele, the Basilica of San Frediano with its exquisite mosaics, and the
birthplace of the composer Puccini whose house is now a small museum. The more
energetic of you can also rent bikes to do a Wall Bike Tour along the city
walls. If there is enough time, your driver can take you to visit one of the
magnificent villas on the outskirts of the city. Years ago, Lucca’s most illustrious families and
foreign residents had their summer homes in this area. The beautiful gardens of
Villa Mansi built by the architect F. Juvarra is worth a visit as is Villa
Torrigiani with its luxurious apartments and grounds.
Proceed the drive north through the Apennine hills to the
romantic and mysterious Venice. Here we will drop you off at Piazzale Roma and
where you may arrange a taxi boat to pick you up and take you to your hotel.
Orientation tour to discover the city's treasures nestled
amid charming squares, bridges and narrow streets. From Saint Mark's Square
passing by the Doge's Palace, you will venture into the heart of this unique
labyrinth of lagoons for a genuine taste of Venice’s enchantment.
If you like, at the end of the tour, your local guide can
leave you close to a glass factory near the square where you can admire a
"mastro vetraio" giving a demonstration of his art. In the alternative,
you can choose to take a relaxing gondola ride for 30/40 minutes at an extra
cost. Please ask our office for a quote.
