Description

Our private shore excursion to Herculaneum, Vesuvius & Sorrento from the port of Naples includes so many different things! Ancient history buried under volcanic ash, a cosmopolitan resort town with fantastic shopping, and a live volcano with breathtaking views.

Features of this day trip to Herculaneum, Vesuvius & Sorrento from Naples:

  • Pick-up at the cruise terminal
  • Air-conditioned vehicle
  • The picture-postcard village of Sorrento
  • Amazing local products and handicrafts
  • The fascinating ruins at Herculaneum
  • The awe-inspiring volcano of Mount Vesuvius
  • Drop off at the ship.

Your tour begins with a scenic drive, skirting the bay of Naples in the shadow of Mt. Vesuvius.

SORRENTO

A summer resort that attracts visitors from all over the world, Sorrento is an enchanting village brimming with character.  In ancient times the Greeks and Romans found inspiration here for their art and industry, and it is here that you will find an extraordinary array of woodworks, mosaics, furniture and porcelain in a setting of handsome streets, scenery and people.  If you have a sweet tooth (well, even if you don’t) you should taste some sfogliatelle, a delectable Neapolitan pastry filled with ricotta cheese and candied fruit.

HERCULANEUM

One of the ancient world's worst disasters stopped time in Herculaneum, where you will see life as it was almost 2000 years ago. The cataclysmic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD buried the city under ash and lava, where it remained brilliantly preserved until excavations began in the 18th century. You will have 2 hours to tour on foot (or better yet, with a private guide), gaining an insight into the lives of ancient Romans as you stroll past bathhouses, temples, markets and forums.

MOUNT VESUVIUS

Get your hiking boots on and get ready for a glute workout!  After climbing for about 20 minutes, you’ll reach the summit of Mount Vesuvius, where you’ll be rewarded by spectacular views of the Sorrentine peninsula and a chance to gaze into the mouth of the volcano (still active, by the way).  Rangers are available to talk about the history of the volcano, and you can walk around the crater for a good distance.

2. Is the driver also a guide?

Our English-speaking drivers are NOT licensed guides. In order to provide you with the best-in-class service, our English-speaking driving guides have been trained to offer our clients a nice overview with information regarding the major highlights avoiding the expensive charges of hiring a private guide. Due to strict Italian laws & regulations that protect officially licensed guides, our driving guides can comment and explain the sights only from inside the vehicle but are not allowed to do so once they are outside the vehicle. They are regularly licensed instead to chauffeur the public. We highly recommend that you never book with any touring company that does not make this clear.

Tips are generally: 10% not bad 15 % great 20 % best tour in my life. Please report any abuse.
