Villa Borghese

The grounds surrounding Villa Borghese are among Europe's most beautiful settings. Located in the very heart of Rome, the setting is a quiet escape for locals and tourists alike. The grounds are dotted by gardens, statues, museums, a zoo, a small lake and plenty of trees, under which visitors often relax with a picnic lunch.

The Galleria Borghese, the villa's main attraction, is full of legendary art, mostly from the romantic Renaissance era. Only 300 visitors are allowed inside at one time, making it easy to enjoy some of the famous pieces up close. It's an excellent diversion from the more austere artistic mood within the Vatican's galleries. Sorry, no photos may be taken inside.
